Another piece for my 100 Themes Challenge! At long last. This randomly came to me the other day when I was thinking about the end of the TLK movie. You never see Nala reunited with her mom - which, in the context of the movie is fine, because for all we know the jungle is like less than 24 hours run from the Pridelands and she was only gone for a day. But adopting the attitude of 'Shadowland', the song from the musical - Nala didn't know if she'd ever be coming back. While Simba came home and saved everyone from Scar, Nala is just as much a hero in that she risked her life to find help in the first place. So, I decided to draw a picture of Sarafina welcoming her daughter home under the title 'hero'.
Nala is quite blatently referenced, and I'm kind of disappointed now that I decided to use that expression because it's so obvious, but I suck at drawing heads that are hanging down. I also now realise their eyes are too close to their muzzles and Nala's chin looks a little disfigured haha. Whoops! Anyway, I love how Sarafina turned out, I love their colours together, and I like the new comic-book style I tried with the sharp shadows. I may do more like this.
OMG, I KNEW there was more to Nala than Simba's lover, put I could never quite put my paw on it, but THIS shows me what it is!1!!!!!! This is soooo beautiful, I love Sarafina and Nala, they're features are so flawless and pretty BTW, this does NOT need any work AT ALL, it's AMAZING like this!!!
Thank you! I still wish I hadn't referenced Nala from such an obvious pose, it draws me out of this picture and back into the original scene with that pose.
